Water Flower
240cm X 240cm, 2009
The book titled \’the water has to know the answer\’ by Japanese author Emoto Masaru is about water crystal formation. At the end of his long research, he showed the image of how water crystals forms can be changed by a person\’s words, music, emotion and situation. This work is based on the message in that book. I I used to the crystal form to represent positive words and feelings. This shows that small things that people don\’t recognize can cause a significant change to the movement and sustainability of life to the small things in existence.

Dust Flower
90cm X 90cm, 2010
I focused on small particles in our lives to explain existence that surrounds our world but often is not noticed. This piece was created to represent dust particles. It was influenced by my other work called “water flower” which represented water crystals. I thought about how the dust particles might form crystals as well when I was looking at the layer of dust on my basement floor.

On the surface, this seems like a streak of white paint. But looking at it closely, you can see each independent and unique particles that make up the paint. What the each detailed particle represents will be different depending on the perspective of the viewer. But the overall theme of this piece is to provide emphasis on the details in our lives.

The Outbreak
3 ft, Porcelain, Smoke fire, 2013
I am interested in things that are unnoticed and appear to have little or no significance on a regular basis. As we strive to do better, we often become oblivious to things that surround us. Using forms inspired by micro-organisms, I want to emphasize the importance of the individuality and the collective entity. The creatures are inter-connection of real and imagined existence. By taking the time to observe and give our attention to these small details, we are soon faced with another form of existence waiting for our recognition. My work is presented in a monumental presence through an accrual of small imaginative elements.
Recently I was diagnosed with Rhumatoid Arthritis, a disease where the immune system attacks the joint in the body. This has provided another form of inspiration for my work as I cope with the disease and adapt to a new lifestyle. I have started to reflect these experiences and feelings into my work.
The primary technique used in my work is hand building. I like to create whatever shapes I can imagine in my head using my hands and tools I have at my disposal. My goal is to create one-of-a-kind shapes that are precise and detailed while still having the “hand made” look and feel. I try to use my surrounding environment and personal experiences to influence the shapes I create. My material of choice is porcelain ceramic. It’s a medium that allows me to create my imagination into a three dimensional representation.

The Carpet
Porcelain, 2014
This installation work represents my struggle with dust allergy. My daily battle with the dust created by the carpet in my home is presented in the uniquely shaped pieces. For something that has such a big impact in my life, it’s ironic that it’s not clearly visible to the naked eye.
My work is presented in a monumental presence through an accrual of small imaginative elements.
